Housing Officer
A Day in the life of a Neighbourhood Housing Officer
I really enjoy this job as no two days are ever the same although the week usually starts the same way with the telephone ringing constantly on Monday mornings with calls about anything from a grounds maintenance complaint to neighbour nuisance or serious harassment.
The work of a Housing Officer is varied and we find ourselves switching job tasks all day long. Some of the things we have to deal with can be quite challenging especially when working with people who are not aware that their actions have an impact on not only their immediate neighbours but sometimes on the whole neighbourhood.
The Dane Housing Group work closely with other service providers in the area and I work closely with the police in Alsager, which is my area, visiting homes of tenants where there are known problems, usually with youths, in an effort to make the parents aware that the actions of their children or visitors to their home could have a serious impact on their tenancies and also on what action the police could take. This initiative has been welcomed by other tenants in the area and is having some success.
The Dane Housing Group like to be accessible to residents and I hold a weekly surgery on a Friday morning at the one- stop -shop in Alsager town centre where people can come for advice on housing.
We have a number of community based initiatives and hold tea parties for the elderly with music provided. We also have sofa days where we have taken a sofa to different locations where residents could come along and speak to their Housing Officer and Neighbourhood Inspector regarding all sorts of housing issues. This is a good way to get to meet residents and for them to meet each other.
I really enjoy working at Dane Housing especially with all of my colleagues who are very supportive and all embrace a joint effort to achieve our aims and goals of Dane being a great company to be a part of and a great place to work.
