New Business Manager

A Day In The Life of Mark Davies – Building Services and New Business Manager

My job at the Dane Housing Group involves two key areas, new business and core business.

New business is important as it involves managing private works for the business which can include one off private jobs such as replacing and repairing boilers. This is very important as private work is available to all members of the public and not just Dane Housing residents. Furthermore, any money that is generated from this additional work is reinvested straight back into Dane Housing for the benefit of our residents. New business also involves the implementation of the use of renewable energy such as PV panels, solar heating panels and other green renewable products. Finally, within new business I oversee the EAGA warm front project which is a government grant aided scheme for central heating installations. This is again important to Dane as it is available for all members of the public and the region that we cover for installation is Liverpool to Burton Upon Trent.

My other key area of responsibility at Dane Housing is core business which is overseeing all of the gas end electrical works within our properties. This is very important as I have to ensure that the annual gas safety check is completed for all residents as this is a requirement by law. Furthermore, I conduct day to day breakdowns on gas and electricity as well as collate larger planned work such as rewiring.

My final key responsibility with the company is continuing the success of our award winning apprenticeship scheme which involves aspects such as training and mentoring support for the current apprentices.

I thoroughly enjoy working at Dane Housing due to the diverse nature of the job which entails covering all aspects of the building services industry. Furthermore, there is a friendly and strong team environment here with all departments working together to achieve company targets and goals.
